How we review
We don't claim taste. Taste is yours. Everything else — kick, comfort, duration, drip, moisture, discreteness, build — we measure. Eight dimensions, real users, named bylines.
Why we don't score taste
Every nicotine-pouch retailer, blogger, and YouTube channel reviews on taste. We don't — for one reason: taste is the most subjective sensory dimension of any pouch product. A "clean mint" to one reviewer is medicinal to another. "Bright citrus" can read as dish soap depending on what you ate that morning. Telling you what taste to expect from a pouch you've never tried is, in practice, no better than a coin flip — and the standard editorial framing of taste reviews ("hits notes of menthol with a finish of pine") actively misleads shoppers who'll find none of that.
What we can measure objectively is the functional behaviour of the pouch in your mouth: how strong the kick is, how fast it arrives, how long it lasts, how comfortable the pouch material feels, how much saliva it produces, how well it stays moist over time, how visible it is under your lip, and whether the build quality holds up. Those are knowable. Those are reproducible. Those are what we score.
The eight dimensions
Every reviewer scores these eight before they write prose. Most are 1–10; duration is the exception, recorded as a stopwatch reading in minutes.
- Kick intensity
- How strong the nicotine hits at peak. Scored 1–10. Distinct from onset — a slow-onset pouch can still hit hard.
- Kick onset
- How quickly the kick arrives. 1 = slow ramp over 5+ minutes. 10 = near-instant.
- Lip comfort
- Pouch material against the gum. Does the pouch sting? Does it dry the gum? Scored over a full session, not the first minute.
- Duration
- Time from peak to noticeable fade. Reported in minutes — not a 1–10 score, an actual stopwatch number per reviewer.
- Drip volume
- Saliva production. 1 = dry pouch with minimal drip, 10 = wet pouch with constant drip. Some users want more, some less — we don't moralise it, we measure it.
- Moisture retention
- How well the pouches stay moist over time in the can. 1 = dries within a week of opening, 10 = consistent moisture through the last pouch.
- Discreteness
- Visible bulge under the lip. 1 = obvious, 10 = invisible. Format-dependent (slim/mini/superslim affect this directly).
- Build quality
- Pouch material integrity and seal. Does the pouch tear in the can? Does it leak during use? Does the can lid seat properly?
Frequently asked
Why don't you score taste?+
Taste is the most subjective dimension of any food, drink, or pouch product. A reviewer's mint-fresh might be your medicinal-cold; their citrus-bright might be your dish-soap. Telling you what taste to expect is, at best, a coin flip. We measure what's measurable and leave taste to you.
Who are your reviewers?+
Real users who consented to be named. Every review carries a byline linking to a reviewer profile with their country, snus history, preferred strength range, and total review count. No anonymous editorial team, no AI-generated reviews, no marketing copy disguised as reviews.
How do you prevent reviewer bias?+
Each reviewer scores blind on the eight dimensions before writing prose. The dimensions are checklists — you fill them in by feel during a session, not after writing the narrative. Aggregate scores across multiple reviewers per product mute individual bias on stable dimensions like build quality and duration.
Are reviewers paid?+
We send pouches free for review. We do not pay for positive scores. Reviewers retain editorial control over their dimension scores and prose; we retain editorial control over publication standards (no taste claims, no medical claims, no marketing copy).
Why no AggregateRating until you have reviews?+
Schema.org AggregateRating requires at least one real review. Showing fake or seeded ratings would be schema fraud and a Google penalty risk. Until a product has at least one named-reviewer review on file, the JSON-LD on its page omits AggregateRating entirely.
Can I become a reviewer?+
Yes — write to hello@nicopodstore.com with your snus history, country, and a short paragraph on why you'd be useful. We onboard 1–3 reviewers per month and prioritise underrepresented markets and demographics.
